I would like to take a moment and nominate my little sister Katelynn for Little of the year. When I first started with BBBS program 5 years ago I didn’t think I would end up having a connection with such a wonderful young lady. We were matched initially because we both had lost our mothers when we were younger. At the beginning Katelynn was painfully shy, not very talkative and easily discouraged. Over the past 5 years she has grown into a beautiful, talented, outgoing 14 year old. She is now in high school makes friends easily and speaks her mind. Katelynn has taught me so much about living life, and not to waste a moment of it. I was bitter about my mother’s passing and Katelynn made me realize that, our loved ones are always there and they watch us and it’s ok to be to be sad. We both have experienced many ups and downs in our lives and have grown closer because of it. She has provided me with a comfort that I never expected. I wanted to have an impact on a child’s life but I had no idea what an impact she was going to have on mine. Katelynn is truly a blessing in my life. We enjoy going to movies and going to the mall. We text each other to check in and see how things are going throughout the week. One of our favorite things to do is go to midnight showings of movies. The last one we went to was Harry Potter 7 and we waited outside the theater for 6 hours! We were able to talk and play games while waiting. I’m so thankful to have joined the BBBS family and to have Katelynn forever in my life. From the bottom of my heart thanks!

I met Chris in May of 2010, my mom and all the BBBS folks were trying to find me the best match possible. The fi rst day I met Chris, he was awesome because he was still wearing his air force uniform. We talked about stuff and then made plans to hang out. I wasn’t sure what to expect since my last two Big Brothers just stopped being big brothers and left. Chris and I ended up hanging out at my house playing video games and then we went for a walk. He wanted a chance to talk to me one on one and just get to know me. When we came back home and Chris left, I was really excited and told my mom I think they found me the most awesome Big Brother. One day, Chris asked my mom if it was ok to go to Alamogordo. He took me to the space museum. The best part of that day was doing the simulation. Chris is always surprising me with different things to do. One day we headed off to my now favorite place BOB O’s.
We played laser tag and rode the go carts. We had so much fun that when we got back home, Chris ended up going back with his adult friends. We do lots of different things. We hang out, we play games, we go the park, but the best of the best with Chris is just talking. Somehow this guy understands me and even with his crazy work schedule working till 11 p.m. and being in the military, he makes time for me. He even took me to see where he works. So thank you BBBS for finding me my Big Brother, the Big who remembers that there are always Littles like me who need someone. And Thank You Chris for being the “BOMB” you are so awesome!
